Mitigation Banking is the process of compensating for permitted impacts by purchasing credits from an approved bank. It is the preferred method of compensation for wetland and stream impacts in Virginia. Mitigation banking is financially viable for both the bank sponsor and end user. The bank sponsor is incentivized for restoring natural resources and providing perpetual protection for the land. The end user is able to expedite the regulatory process and eliminate the liability associated with other forms of compensatory mitigation. It is a mutually beneficial solution for the permittee, the bank sponsor and the environment.
Virginia Wetland Consulting can handle your mitigation bank project from the initial planning stages through closeout procedures. We have extensive experience with the process and can assist with banking instrument creation and approval, stream restoration and wetland planting designs, annual monitoring, and credit release management and sales. We are committed to both the environmental and financial success of your mitigation bank project - contact us today to see what we can do for you.
